Thoughts On The Ivy

Bill Whitehead transferred from another community to The Ivy of McKinney nearly a year ago, and both son and dad couldn’t be happier. According to Claude, “I live just eight minutes from The Ivy, so I can pop in at any time. Sometimes at 7 a.m., occasionally at 10 p.m., and I’m never disappointed. I can see the entire staff loves Dad, and he’s in good hands.

The staff is caring and do their best to provide everything that she needs in a timely manner. The Ivy may not be the fanciest, or the most expensive assisted living facility, but it does feel the most like home and that is what is important to my mom. Her apartment is large with a very big bathroom, a nice kitchen area a big bedroom and a huge closet. Having her own washer and dryer in the apartment is a great help. Since Surpass Living purchased The Ivy several months ago, there have been many improvements in the facility and in the service to the residents. I am confident that care at The Ivy has allowed my mother to be much more comfortable in her later years.

…for all the residents from the wonderful staff that work so hard! This is a great community – a place so many residents feel truly at home and are met with smiles and fun! It was an honor and a blessing to come out and be a blessing to your community today. They come by and give you a hug, they ask you about your day. There’s a difference between doing things and doing things because you want to do them. That’s what The Ivy is. I have lived in a place where staff would do things for you but you could tell it was just a job to them or they did it but didn’t really want to. Here, everyone goes out of their way to handle my requests, no matter how big or small, they don’t ignore them. That is this place, that is what I love about this place.

The staff is warm and loving to all the residents. My mom loves that they remember her name. It is fun to see how the lobby is decorated for each holiday and season. It definitely makes you feel at home and helps remind my mom what season or holiday it is. The apartments are spacious and we had fun making it feel like home for my mom. My mom enjoys going to the dinner room for each meal and sitting with her friends. The food is very good and offers a good variety. Both my parents enjoyed the musical programs in the afternoon several times a month. It makes me happy to see my mom singing the old songs and a smile on her face. It makes my life easier that Angela is in the salon to do my mom’s hair every other week. She loves to have her hair done. I appreciate that the staff helps her pick-out her clothes and jewelry. Overall, I am very happy with Mom living at the Ivy.

I am so very grateful for The Ivy and that you could accommodate my dad and grandmother in a very short period of time. I am also very impressed with the apartment and amenities!
